For as long as men have been shaving there have been certain shaving customs that people use.  In olden times men would use shaving oil and water to shave their faces.  Even in the past century men have used a variety of things to shave with depending on what resources may have been available to them.  Some would use butter if they had nothing else while others may have used a fancy shaving brush set.  Regardless of what may have been used  in the past there are even more methods to shaving than existed in the past largely due to new inventions such as canned shaving cream.

One method that has long been used by men for shaving is using a shaving brush set.  A lot of people may not really know what a shaving brush is even used for while others may think it looks funny.  Shaving brush sets have a long history of use.  There purpose was and is to apply shaving soap to your face.  Since the invention of the conventional canned shaving cream this method of shaving has not been as often, but there are still many who will only shave this way.

There are in fact some benefits to using shaving soap with your brush shaving set instead of shaving cream.  If you are environmentally friendly then using a straight razor with your shaving brush set will indeed help out the planet more than you’d think.  The average male will use probably hundreds of cans of shaving cream during his lifetime.  These will go straight to the landfill and pollute the earth.  Meanwhile think about how many straight razors and brush shaving sets you may go through in life.  The brush isn’t going to need to be replaced very often and there are actually some very luxurious brushes available for buying.  The soap is used until it is gone and will be filtered naturally through the earth.

Using the brush also will allow you to get a really good lather with the soap you use.  There are a variety of soaps you can use as well that will give you different lathers and shaves.  Using a brush with shaving used to be sort of a status symbol as well.  Back in the day men would buy very luxurious brushes made from exotic materials.  Even though it is sort of a lost method of shaving today it is still used nonetheless by many.  If you have never tried shaving before with a shaving brush set then consider trying it out in the near future.
