Shaving Oil Uses and Which To Use

Shaving oil has been used by men for a long, long time.  How do you think men centuries ago would shave their faces?  There was no shaving cream to go around so of course they used the best resources they had which were water and oils.  In today’s day and age we now have a wider selection of shaving supplies such as pre shave oil and creams, but some men still prefer to use shaving oils to get the job done.

There is some reasoning behind their madness because when you shave oil is able to cut down the friction between your face and the actual razor.  The oil also helps to soften your hairs and make them easier to cut.  If you have naturally dry skin or  very thick hairs then using a pre shaving oil can help your skin not get irritated after your shave and make the shave much easier for you.

Some people swear by certain brands of shaving oil, but if you ever find yourself in a bind you can always just use some household olive oil or any other cooking oil.  It won’t have the menthol or scent of a normal shaving oil, but it’ll do the same job.  The menthol does make your skin feel much better, but the scent in other oils doesn’t really matter in terms of usability.

It’s also important to understand that there is a difference between shaving oil and pre shave oil.  A pre shaving oil is one that is used before you apply another layer of shaving cream on top of it.  By using a pre shave oil you’ll leave your skin moisturized after the shave and your hairs will soften.  To use a pre shave oil you’ll want to pour a few drops into your hand.  Gently slap together your hands for a few seconds and then massage the oil into your face.  Let it sit for about a minute before adding the shaving cream and you’ll be prepared for a great shave.

Shaving oil on the other hand is used alone without any lather or cream.

Below we will review two recommended shaving oils that you may want to try out during your next shave.  The top one is a shaving oil and the bottom one is a pre shave oil.

All Natural Shaving Oil by Pacific Shaving Company

This shaving oil was highly recommended by customers, which is why we are reviewing it here.  This particular bottle lasts up to 100 shaves and is fairly affordable.  If you shave once a day then this will easily last you up to three months with the recommended amount to use for each shave.  Regardless if you are shaving you head, beard, or any other facial hair it will get the job done and help you avoid cuts and razor burn while shaving.  It doesn’t clog your pores and leaves your skin well moisturized.  One customer who was skeptical tried it out and found that it gave him the closest shave ever and left his face well moisturized and not dry.

This pre shaving oil is also highly recommended by customers.  This oil will help you shave closer and help you avoid any ingrown hairs that may come as a result of shaving.  It also has the added benefit of weakening ingrown hairs if you already have any.  This bottle is fairly priced for the amount you receive and quality of the oil.  One customer said that he’s been using it for years without any disappointment.  Another customer noted that two bottles lasts him a year.
