If you are one of those guys that shaves every morning then your shaver probably gets quite a bit of use.
That’s fine because that is what they are made for. It is important though to treat your shaver with care and to do maintenance on it from time to time. Electric shavers have a dirty job by nature. They have tons of gears and razors in constant motion that cut hundreds of tiny hairs on our faces. Those hairs easily can and do get into those moving parts and small areas, and it can take a big hit on your shaver after a while.
By cleaning your shaver every once in a while or daily you’ll increase the longevity of your razor, and you’ll ensure that your shaver gives you a great shave each and every time you use it. A lot of shavers now come with automatic cleaners, but you may still want to manually clean it yourself from time to time. Here are some steps you can take for cleaning your shaver, and making sure that you’re cleaning it as well as you should.
Remove The Power
It’s important to unplug your shaver before ever trying to clean it. If your shaver takes batteries then you may want to remove those as well. Remember to always use safety first.
Check That Gasket
The next thing you’ll want to do is to check the rubber gasket located below the cutter block on your shaver. This holds an important task. If you gasket is bent or cracked then you need to replace it as soon as possible. This handy thing helps keep any hairs and grime from getting into the motor area. Letting hairs into the motor area can damage the internal workings and lessen the life of your shaver dramatically.
Remove The Cutter Block
After looking at your gasket you’ll want to now clean out the cutter block and everything below it. Your cutter block is usually just unclipped from your shaver. If your shaver came with a brush then this will work fine. Try to get out as much hair as possible.
Wash It Up
After cleaning the cutter block you’ll want to wash your shaver. The best thing to do is get a cleaning fluid made especially for shavers, or you can simply use some soapy water. You’ll want to dip the cutter block into the solution and thoroughly clean it.
Put It Back Together
Now you’ll want to make sure everything is dried properly and put back together properly. Make sure to look at your shavers manual to make sure you put it back together properly and that it’s safe for operation. Use some lubricant on the head of your shaver to help take off the friction on your blades and foils. Also make sure to use the lubricant every time you shave to ensure it’s running smoothly.
